Services We Offer
The website enables you to consult a GP or make a general query to the practice, make or cancel an appointment, request a repeat prescription, or receive test results by e-mail.
CONSULTING A GP OR PN BY EMAIL
You may not need to make an appointment to come to the surgery - we may be be able
to help you by e-mail. To contact a GP or nurse by email:
- log into the system with your email address and password
- select 'Secure Messaging'
- choose whether to send a message to a GP or a Nurse
- then simply enter your message
We will let you know whether it would be better for you to come alng to the surgery, or we will deal with the issue by e-mail.
If your query is urgent you should telephone the surgery rather than use the Messaging System as it may take up to 24 hours for us to respond to a message and it is not possible to respond to messages over the weekend.
We use industry-standard encryption to offer messaging that is far more safe and secure than sending a normal email.
APPOINTMENTS
It is intended that in the future all appointments for Murano will be made online.
You can search for appointments at a certain time or with a particular Doctor or Nurse
- this allows you to choose a male or female doctor.
If you need to see your GP urgently and you cannot find an appointment through the website, you can phone the surgery between 8:30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday on: (0141) 531 8822.
Smears:
We would like to point out that Smears are conducted by the Practice Nurses
and are offered to women over the age of 21.
We would ask you not to make Smear Appointments with the Doctors.
If you find that the times are not convenient to you please contact us
by telephone and we can make some other arrangements.
Sexual Health Screening:
We offer a sexual health screening service called "CHOICES".
We offer a full range of sexual health testing, including HIV testing.
Please telephone the Surgery to make an appointment for this.
Travel:
We offer a comprehensive travel medicine service. Students often have
complex travel needs involving a number of different countries and
backpacking overland. This requires relatively specialist travel advice and
this is offered at our Travel Clinic. These appointments are available over
the telephone and not over the Web.
Contraception:
We offer a full range of Contraceptive advice. If you require contraceptive
advice in the first instance we would ask you to speak with one of the Doctors.
If you are currently on contraceptive and happy with your choice then you may
get further contraception through an appointment with the Nursing Staff.
Medical Certificates:
The University often requires patients to provide Medical Certificates.
For the first seven days of illness these can be in the form of a self-certificate
which the University should accept - these can be obtained from your Advisor
of Studies. If you require a Medical Certificate from the Practice please
discuss this with the Doctor at the time of your appointment and we can make
arrangements for this. If you have already seen the Doctor and then require
a Certificate please contact the Admin staff or contact us through the
Messaging Service and we can arrange this.
REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS
You can quickly and easily request a repeat prescription online -
simply enter the complete name and dose of the medication you are taking,
and whether to collect the prescription from Murano Reception or Moss Pharmacy
(693 Great Western Road). Prescriptions are usually available for collection
within 24 working hours (Mon-Fri).
TEST RESULTS
If you have blood or other tests done when you come to the surgery, the GP or
nurse will ak if you would like to receive your results through the website. If
you would, we will e-mail you to let you know your results are available and
that you can retrieve your message securely.
